Tax Preparation
Death and taxes—the only two certainties in this life, according to Benjamin Franklin. We all have to pay taxes, but let us prepare your income tax return so you minimize your tax exposure and plan better for the future. With new clients, we may discuss and review your past returns to see if there were deductions that were not taken, if something is in need of correction, or if there are other problem items.
Tax preparation for individuals and businesses is a large part of our services. During our more than 70 years in business, we have gained a depth of experience in preparing tax returns—1040s, C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, LLCs, fiduciary, estates, trusts, inheritance, gift, and non-profits. We take special care to stay on top of the ever-changing tax codes and regulations, and we prepare taxes for any state, using the most efficient and up-to-date tax preparation software available.
Business/Farm/Rental Tax Schedules
These particular type of tax forms are very common in our practice, and there are many choices to be made that can have long-range tax effects.
We want to learn as much as we can about your activity and tax philosophy, as some clients want to save as much as possible in the current year, while others prefer tax benefits to carry over several years. An example is depreciation, which offers some flexibility as to when the deductions may be taken.
Estimated tax payments are often required if there is not adequate income tax being withheld from other sources of income.
Income Tax Planning
An important tax service we offer is tax planning, which enables you to anticipate the amount of tax you will pay before it is too late. While each client is unique, we often meet with clients in October or November to assess their tax year-to-date, giving them time to take action before the end of the year. One thing we always try to get our clients to focus on is a long-term strategy for paying taxes. Sometimes, saving on taxes today can set you up for paying more taxes tomorrow. It's always a balancing act in which we have to look at saving money over the long term instead of focusing solely on today.
Life Events and Taxes
We encourage individuals to make an appointment with us any time they have a new life event—getting married/divorced, buying a new house, having a child, or sending a child to college, a death in the family—so together we can assess the impact this might have on the amount of income tax you will pay. These life events often have unforeseen tax consequences, so don't hesitate to make an appointment with us to assess your situation.
